JCUMC CARES

At Johns Creek United Methodist Church, caring for the congregation and the community is a vital part of what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself." Every disciple of Jesus Christ is to love their neighbor. The church believes that the care and support of a loving community is crucial in equipping people to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. It is essential to first BE disciples.

Johns Creek United Methodist Church seeks to be and make disciples by providing opportunities to give and receive spiritual and emotional support. The care and support ministries of JCUMC are here to help connect people to God in the midst of times of struggle, pain, loss, and disorientation.

The group meets from August through May at 1:00pm on the second Wednesday of each month and at 6:00pm on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Meeting place is presently on the Grand Staircase landing above the Narthex. For more information you may contact Laura Marcy.

  • Prayer is one of the truest signs of disciples of Jesus Christ. The prayer ministry consists of members of JCUMC who have committed themselves to praying for those on our weekly prayer list. They send notes to those who are home bound, in the hospital, grieving, or having difficulty in many other ways. If you’d like to become a member of the prayer team, please contact us at Prayer@JohnsCreekUMC.org.

SUPPORT GROUPS

There is a wide range of support groups at Johns Creek UMC. They're available for every age and stage. We host support groups regarding grief, depression and bipolar disorder, sexual orientation, cancer, dementia, addiction and substance abuse.

  • Approximately 6 billion families live with or care for a loved one with dementia. For this reason, JCUMC offers a support group for those affected.   This is a safe space to share feelings, frustrations, anger and grief.  Most important it is a time for comfort, understanding and information.  Jean Taff facilitates the group.  She is an Advanced Practice Nurse in psychiatry with extensive experience caring for geriatric people.

Dementia Support meets every Tuesday at 7:00pm in Room 202. QUESTIONS?? Please email dementiasupport@johnscreekumc.org.

  • Meets Thursdays from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Please call (770)497-8215 for information on where the group is meeting. For more information email Bob Bell.

After the loss of a loved one, we experience a variety of emotions and life changing events. Helping one another through support and encouragement is the foundation for this group. Wherever you find yourself on this journey through grief, you are welcome to come.

  • There is a lot of misunderstanding about depression and - especially - bipolar disorder.  Both can be isolating illnesses, but the DBSA support group can help you connect with others who have been there as well. DBSA meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in Room 214. For more information, contact Chris Irwin (770)365-4975.

  • PFLAG is an organization of LGBTQ+ people, parents, families, and allies who work together to create an equitable and inclusive world. Since our founding in 1973, PFLAG works every day to ensure LGBTQ+ people everywhere are safe, celebrated, empowered and loved. Many people don't know where to turn when a child, family member, friend, or other loved one comes out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ+). PFLAG chapters provide support, education, and advocacy to LGBTQ+ people, their parents and families, and allies, including co-workers, teachers, doctors, and others who wish to better understand and support them.

PFLAG provides opportunities for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. The group now has a separate group for teens and younger adults. The group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. All are welcome. For more information, contact us at pflagjohnscreek@gmail.com

  • Meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month  at 7:00pm via ZOOM. For more information contact Chet Burdick chetburdick@bellsouth.net

  • NA is a nonprofit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem.

This group meets every Tuesday at 7:30 pm in Room 203 and every Thursdays at 7:30 pm in Room 203 of the Education Building.

For more information, email nac@johnscreekumc.org or visit the national website: na.org

  • Nar-Anon is a fellowship for those affected by someone else’s addiction. As a Twelve-Step Program, we offer our help by sharing our experience, strength, and hope. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of addiction in a relative or friend.

Nar-Anon meets on Tuesdays at 7:30pm in Room 209 of the Education Building.

  • The mission of The Compassionate Friends: When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family.

TCF of Johns Creek UMC meets in Room 204 on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. For more information email Pat at benniepatricia@yahoo.com
